Sohni Tagirisa

Changing colors as she walks, junior Sohni Tagirisa’s prom dress transitions from pink to purple to red, depending on how the light reflects off the sequins. Her rose-gold jewelry adds to the dress, with sparkling gems draped around her neck, heels and earrings. Tagirisa was originally picky when deciding what to wear, but when she delayed her prom shopping endeavors due to AP testing, the choices she had for dresses available in her size were limited.

“I went [shopping] two weeks ago, I would say, I think around May 1,” Tagirisa said. “And so a lot of dresses were obviously sold out because our prom is a lot later than other schools. So that's probably why there [were fewer] options. Sizing also runs out even if they're really pretty dresses and tailoring can be really hard sometimes because I’m also pretty short.”

Tagirisa says she wanted her dress to be less classy and more fun, due to this being her junior, not senior, prom. She planned to match the  “Sailing Under the Stars” theme with her outfit.

“I wanted something that would really reflect [the theme] and be kind [of] sparkly,” Tagirisa said. “And I think every aspect of my fit, in the dark, would stand out more. I feel like the reflectiveness of it makes it look nice. It's like little stars.”
